The best photo session locations in (or near) Montgomery, Alabama Pt.2
Welcome to part two of my list of favorite local(ish) photo session spots! If you’ve somehow landed here without seeing part one of the list, be sure to check it out here. Now, on with the rest of my faves!
#5 Grace Episcopal Church Gardens
What a hidden gem! Driving past Grace Episcopal Church in Pike Road, you’d never guess there was a meandering garden with brick walkways, fountains, pergolas, and an array of seasonal colors hiding behind the charming church structure. Even if you’re not feeling a garden photo session, it’s worth a visit just to enjoy this peaceful setting on your own.
#4 Children’s Harbor
Just a short drive from the Montgomery (or Birmingham) area, you’ll find the charming Children’s Harbor in Eclectic, Alabama. From its beautiful chapel to its intimate beach and gazebo or its lighthouse and winding dock, there are a wealth of gorgeous settings for your unique photo session.
#3 Chewacla State Park
Nestled just south of I85 in Auburn, Alabama, Chewacla State Park offers a picturesque backdrop for any photo session. The park’s diverse landscapes provide endless possibilities for striking compositions. From sun-dappled trails to serene waterscapes, every corner of this park is full of photographic potential. Whether you’re up for a stroll by the lake or an adventurous climb to the foot of the roaring waterfall, there’s something for almost anyone at Chewacla State Park.
#2 Lake Martin
I know, I know. This one’s a little vague. But there are so many beautiful spots near the lake that I couldn’t narrow it down! From wide open fields to red dirt roads or your favorite local haunt, the Lake Martin area has so much to offer (especially for the outdoor enthusiast!). It’s about an hour’s drive from the Montgomery area, but the change of scenery is so worth it. Bonus points if it’s extra meaningful to you or your family because it’s somewhere you visit often!
#1 Your home! (or a rental/location that has special value to you)
Piggybacking off of location #2, a place that has special meaning for you makes for such a personal, unique session. The opportunity to capture you doing what you love with the people you love in a place that you love means your images will be more than just portraits. They’ll be special memories preserved for years and generations to come. This is my favorite kind of session because the possibilities are endless! Do you have a special Friday night pizza-making tradition? Maybe you and your loved ones are serious bowlers (or seriously terrible bowlers). Maybe your favorite thing to do is share some s’mores around the fire pit in your back yard. Whatever lights you up and brings you joy really can be the perfect setting for your photo session.
Bonus! - Providence Canyon
Okay, I know I said I’d share 10 of my favorite photo session locations in the Montgomery, AL area, but I just couldn’t leave this one off the list because it’s so fun and different! It’s also a little farther afield, so it truly is for the most adventurous at heart. Have you heard of Providence Canyon State Park?? It’s technically in Lumpkin, Georgia, which is about a 2-hours drive from the Montgomery area. But where else can you get views like this within driving distance? Your friends will think you took a vacation out west when all you really did was take a day trip! While you’re near Columbus, GA, go ahead and visit the Chattahoochee Riverwalk, the National Civil War Naval Museum, the Coca-Cola Space Science Center, and the Columbus Art Museum!
