But What if I'm Not Outdoorsy?
No matter where you live, it’s kind of cliché to talk about the weather. Here in Alabama, we’re no different. We like to think our weather is exceptional (that humidity!), and it certainly can be. But! That’s not the only reason someone might want to avoid being outside for a photo session. Below, I’ll walk you through several reasons why an indoor portrait session is actually a great idea, even if it’s a perfect 75 degrees and sunny outside.
Number One
Okay, yes, number one is the HEAT. It’s b r u t a l out there from about May until the end of October here in central Alabama. Most days, there is no comfortable time of day to be away from our precious air conditioning. When the heat comes a-knockin’, you’ll find me looking for indoor opportunities, like this adorable pizza making night!

Number Two
Well, the opposite of the heat is the (relative) coolness of winter. Even if the temps aren’t too trying in the River Region, the landscape isn’t at its prettiest in the Montgomery, AL area during the winter months. That’s the perfect time to cozy up in front of that seldom-used fireplace and really play in to the themes of the season. I’m talking chunky scarves, warm blankets, pumpkin spice lattes, trimming the tree, all that good stuff. It’s also a great time of year for those spicier sessions (think: boudoir portraits as a Christmas gift 😉).

Number Three
Where are my mamas?? Being pregnant and/or having a newborn is draining no matter what time of year it is. You are mentally and physically pushed to EXTREMES! Why not make one thing a little bit easier and stay indoors (heck, even stay home in your own bed!).
Hey, if you’re feeling up for it, we’ll trek to that mountaintop with you and that gorgeous belly clothed in the flowiest gown. But maternity and newborn are times I especially feel like it’s okay to take things a little slower and simpler. Let’s capture the magic and mayhem of this season of life in the comfort of your home or my home-like studio!

We all know weddings don’t typically change schedule just because the weather’s not cooperating. But there are so many other reasons not to want to have to reschedule your photo session! Maybe you have family or a special friend visiting from out of town, and there’s only one day we can all get together. Maybe you want to have your hair and makeup professionally styled, and you don’t want to have to re-coordinate all those extra schedules. Maybe you’re hosting a different kind of special event with several moving parts that don’t make sense to change at the last minute. Whatever your reason, the stability of an indoor location can provide an extra layer of security in a situation that may already have you feeling a little insecure.

Fair enough! What’s important is that your portrait session reflects who you are and what’s important to you. It’s not about doing what everyone else does. If that means staying indoors, let’s stay in! I’m all about finding the beauty in a space that feels relatable to you. That could be your home, your place of business, in my studio space, or wherever else we dream up!
